Eight protestors arrested in front of President’s office
KATHMANDU, May 31: Eight people who protested in front of the President’s office have been arrested. The protestors were protesting President Ramchandra Poudel’s decision of certifying the Citizenship Bill in front of Shital Niwas.
President Ramchandra Poudel had certified the Citizenship Bill on Wednesday. Former President Bidhya Devi Bhandari had previously rejected the certification of Citizenship Bill.
The Citizenship Bill passed by both houses of the Parliament was sent to Bhandari on 1st August 2079, but she had sent it back to the Parliament after disagreeing with the decision.
Both houses had passed the Bill and sent it to Bhandari for the second time on September 5, and she postponed the process despite the constitutional provision to certify it within 15 days.
After 9 months, Poudel, who became the President on March 9, certified the Citizenship Bill at the request of the government.
