Call for complaints against Karki as Chief Justice’s appointment process moves forward

Kathmandu, May 30: The Supreme Court’s process of the appointment of Chief Justice has moved forward. A call of complaint will be filed within 10 days against Acting Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki, who is recommended as the Chief Justice by the Constitutional Council. 

In the Parliamentary Hearing Committee’s first meeting held at Singhadurbar on Tuesday, a notice was published that stated the decision to register the complaint within 10 days. The public notice will be published on Gorkhapatra Prakashan and broadcast on Nepal Television. Personal details of Karki have been distributed to cabinet members in the first committee meeting led by the committee’s Senior Member Pashupati Shamsher Rana.

The complaint against Karki can be given in a written letter or through the committee’s public email. The committee has decided not to reveal the identity of the complainant as per their request, although they will not prioritize anonymous complaints.

Karki was recommended for the post of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court by the Constitutional Council on May 8, and the Parliament Secretariat was informed of the decision on May 10. Karki has been the acting Chief Justice for nearly 15 months.
