Yubaraj Safal reaches SC with writ petition against Rabi Lamichhane

A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against Rabi Lamichhane, the Chairman of Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP). Yubaraj Safal went to the Supreme Court on Monday with a writ petition, claiming that Lamichhane is unfit to continue as a member of the House of Representatives.

Claiming that serious questions will arise regarding the rule of law and constitutional supremacy while Rabi is still an MP, it has been requested in the writ petition to issue an interim order under Rule 49 of the Supreme Court Rules, 2074 to stop him from working as a member of the House of Representatives until the final decision of the case.

It has been claimed in the writ petition that Lamichhane took only a copy of the citizenship on January 29 without entering the process of re-acquiring the citizenship. It has been claimed that Lamichhane became a candidate in the by-election in Chitwan 2 based on the same copy of citizenship.

That writ has not been registered in the Supreme Court Administration yet. Safal informed that the case is under study and that he has been called to the Court on Wednesday.
