Inflation rate in Nepal rises to 7.44% in the current fiscal year, transport sector worst hit with 13% inflation
KATHMANDU, April 11: Inflation in Nepal has increased significantly in the past eight months of the current fiscal year, according to a report by Nepal Rastra Bank. The inflation rate has reached 7.44 percent, compared to 7.14 percent at the same time last year. The inflation rate in the food and beverage group stood at 5.64 percent, while it was 8.87 percent in the non-food and beverage group.
The transport sector has been hit the hardest, with an inflation rate of 13.23 percent, followed by the health sector at 10.39 percent. Inflation in home appliances and entertainment stood at 9.72 percent and 8.81 percent, respectively. Regionally, the inflation rate was highest in Kathmandu Valley at 7.95 percent, followed by the mountain region at 8.07 percent. The hilly region had an inflation rate of 6.67 percent, while the terai region had an inflation rate of 7.50 percent.
The rising inflation rate is a cause for concern, as it can lead to decreased consumer spending, increased borrowing costs, and decreased investment. The government and central bank must take appropriate measures to control inflation and maintain price stability in the economy.
