Nepali Congress begins preparation for by-election to be held in Chitwan-2

KATHMANDU, Jan 31: The Nepali Congress has begun preparations for a by-election to be held in Chitwan-2.
A by-election is scheduled to be held in Chitwan-2 after the Supreme Court scrapped the parliamentary post of Rabi Lamichhane declaring his Nepali citizenship illegal.
Lamichhane was earlier elected a member of the House of Representatives (HoR) from Chitwan-2 defeating Umesh Shrestha of Nepali Congress and Krishna Bhakta Pokharel of CPN-UML.
The Nepali Congress is likely to field the candidacy of Umesh Shrestha again.
As per Article 84 (7) of the Constitution of Nepal, in case the seat of any member of the House of Representatives falls vacant while its term still remains for more than six months, the vacancy shall be fulfilled in the same manner of electoral system as in which such seat was fulfilled.
