EC to grant time for NC to file candidacy following demise of it's candidate

KATHMANDU, Nov 9: The Election Commission (EC) has decided to grant time to the Nepali Congress (NC) to file new candidacy for the upcoming election of the federal and provincial level following demise of Shekhar Chandra Thapa, Minister for Forest, Environment and Soil Conservation of Province 1.

Thapa was Morang 3 (1) candidate of Nepali Congress. Thapa breathed his last at 10:40 AM this morning at Noble Hospital. He was suffering from pneumonia.

NC will now file candidacy of a new candidate and the election will be held on the pre scheduled date, according to the poll body.

According to the Provincial Assembly Member Election Act, 2074, a party can file a candidacy of a new candidate if any candidate for the election dies.
