Probe committee asks for more time after failing to collect evidence against Ex-FinMin Sharma
KATHMANDU, July 21: After former Finance Minister Janardan Sharma was charged with changing tax rates inviting two unofficial personnel at the Finance Ministry during the budget preparation process, an eleven member parliamentary committee was formed to probe the committee.
Following the formation of the committee, Finance Minister Sharma had resigned from his post.
The committee was given a ten days period to probe the case and submit a report. Today was the deadline, however, the committee has failed to collect evidence supporting the charges.
The committee on Thursday recorded a statement of Sharma and has asked the House of Representatives (HoR) for more time.
According to Surendra Aryal, secretary of the committee, Speaker Agni Sapkota is likely to decide either to extend the dateline or not by this evening.
