'She Decides Movement' working to create a world where every girl and woman can decide what to do with her body

KATHMANDU, July 12: 'She Decides Movement', a global movement working for betterment of girls in over 27 different countries, is laying new milestones in Nepal to create a world where every girl and woman can decide what to do with her body.

In Nepal, the SheDecides movement began in March, 2019. Visible Impact, Beyond Beijing Committee Nepal and Right Here Right Now Nepal are working as a core member of the SheDecides movement in Nepal. The movement aims to create a world where every girl and woman can decide what to do with her body, with her life and with her future without question with specific focus on Gender Based Violence, Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Safe Motherhood.

On 2nd March 2017, the first international SheDecides conference was hosted in response to the reinstatement and expansion of the Global Gag Rule (also known as the Mexico City policy which is a dangerous anti-abortion policy that risks the health and lives of women and girls around the world).

SheDecides began with two words, then a one day conference, and has rapidly evolved into a growing global movement which is guided by the vision “A world where girl and woman can decide what to do with her body, with her life and with her future. Without question.”

The movement is united by the belief that every girl and every woman, everywhere, has a right to make the decisions that she wants to make.

This means that women and girls, in all their diversity, have access to information about their bodies and rights, have the agency to act on those rights to make decisions, and have access to the services that support those decisions with “Taking action for her right to decide about her body, her life and her future.”

SheDecides started evolving into a global political movement driving change for bodily autonomy, fuelled by action in communities, with young people at its heart. The movement is made up of people who together are committed to organizing their people and networks to take collective action by Standing Up and Speaking Out for bodily autonomy.

SheDecides Day is celebrated every year on March 2 to commit towards its vision more strongly.
