Ruling alliance meeting today to take final decision on MCC ratification
KATHMANDU, Feb 16: The ruling alliance is scheduled to hold a meeting Thursday to make a final decision regarding the ratification of the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC).
Earlier the meeting was summoned for 3 PM at the Prime Minister’s office residence at Baluwatar, but has been put off for 5 PM today following a meeting between Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), a key coalition partner of the Deuba-led government.
At the time when the ruling alliance is fragmented and protests have erupted in streets of the capital against the MCC, the government is all set to table the $500 million American grant that requires parliament ratification in the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting on Friday.
The key coalition partner of the government, CPN (MC) has decided to vote against the MCC if it is tabled in its existing form and withdraw its support to the government.
