More than 12 people succumbed to COVID-19 on average in Nepal in past one week

At the time when the new cases are declining in the country, the COVID-19 death toll tells a different story

KATHMANDU, Feb 10: In an alarming case, the data issued by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) shows that more than 10 people have died of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country on an average in the past one week.

The government is gradually reopening businesses, schools and lifting other COVID-19 restrictions enforced to curb the further spread of COVID-19 maintaining that the new cases are declining and the risk is gradually declining.

However, if we look into the COVID-19 death toll of the past one week, the scenario is completely different.

As many as 14 fatalities linked with COVID-19 were reported on Wednesday alone. Likewise, the number was 11 on Tuesday, 13 on Monday, 11 on Sunday, nine on Saturday, 16 on Friday and 14 on Thursday.

This shows that as many as 88 people have died of COVID-19 in the past one week, which means more than 12 people have died on average daily.

What is concerning is that the general public are taking the Omicron variant of COVID-19 as a mild and unfetal variant which is not. The World Health Organization has already maintained that Omicron Variant can be severe and cause death as well.
