Date fixed for local level polls: What’s next?

KATHMANDU, Feb 9: The government has decided to conduct the local level election on May 30. With this the Election Commission (EC) now has 94 days from today for preparations.

The poll body has already postponed registration of new Voter Identity Cards. According to the EC, as many as 1,100,000 names of youth older than 18 years have been registered for the Voter ID cards as of Monday. 

As per the poll body’s estimation, around 10.74 million voters will cast their votes in the upcoming local level election.

What is next?

1) Finalize the list of newly registered names for Voter ID cards

2) Identification of political parties participating in the election

3) Preparation of directives for the election

4) Budget arrangement 

5) Mobilization of officials required
