RPP in favour of fully proportional electoral system: Chair Lingden

KATHMANDU: Newly-elected chairman of right-wing Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendrat Lingden said the party would lay emphasis in favor of a fully proportional electoral system in the forthcoming national election.

Addressing a victory rally shortly after the results on Sunday, Lingden said that development and prosperity could not be achieved as adequate employment opportunities have not been created in the country mainly due to the 'unsuccessful generation' of leaders leading the nation after the 1990 political change, stressing on handing over the leadership to the new generation in all parties and in contemporary politics. 

Lingden asserted that the RPP under his leadership would promote the agendas of the Hindu nation, constitutional monarchy and others by running a campaign throughout the country. The new RPP president also vowed to end the 'factions' in the party by running the party as per due process and procedure. 

It is to be noted that the party elected new leadership on Sunday. 

Bikram Pandey, Buddhiman Tamang, Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan and Roshan Karki were elected the four vice-chairs of the new RPP Working Committee. Similarly, Dr Dhawal Sumsher Rana, Bhuwan Pathak and Kunti Kumari Shahi were elected the general secretaries.

Although provisions had been made for the 199-member working committee, elections were held for 149 posts. The remaining 50 central committee members would now be nominated. 

The new working committee will also nominate other office-bearers including four vice-presidents, three general secretaries, one treasurer, one joint treasurer and seven joint general secretaries.
