CJ Rana forms nine benches for Wednesday, no hearing for himself

KATHMANDU, November 17: Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana formed nine benches to conduct hearings at the Supreme Court for Wednesday.

These nine benches comprise seven joint benches and two single benches. CJ Rana has, however, not scheduled any hearings for himself.

The Nepal Bar Association has been staging protests piling pressure on CJ Rana to step down for the past few days. Even if the Bar had announced to hear only herpes corpse cases, some of the Justices have begun hearing other cases as well in recent days.

Of 19 justices who had decided to boycott the bench, five justices sat for hearings on Tuesday stating that judicial deadlock should be ended soon.

CJ Rana has formed joint benches of senior justice Deep Kumar Karki and Dr Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, justices Mira Khadka and Prakashman Singh, justices Biswaramba Prasad Shrestha and Sushmala Mathema, justices Bam Kumar Shrestha and Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma, justices Tanka Bahadur Mokhtan and Nahakul Subedi, justices Prakash Kumar Dhungana and Kumar Regmi and justices Tej Bahadur KC and DR Kumar Chundal for Wednesday.

Similarly, single benches of justices Hari Krishna Karki and Hari Prasad Phuyal are also scheduled to conduct hearings on the same day. But, justice Karki is on his leave today.
