Salyan mishap update: Eight of 12 deceased identified

KATHMANDU: Eight of the 12 who were killed in a bus accident in Salyan district have so far been identified. 

The deceased have been identified as Prabha Chalaune,53, from Salyan’s Sarada Municipality-2, Mina Dangi, 61, from Sarada-2 and 66-year-old Lila Budhathoki of Sarada-3. 

Similarly, Mina Shahi, 24, of Shanni Tribeni Municipality [Kalikot district], 6-0-year-old Duli Deule of Dang’s Babai Rural Municipality-4 and  Kalawati Budha,60, of Babai-6 were also killed in the accident that took place on Sunday morning. 

Two other deceased, whose identities have been established, include Indra Adhikari, 65, of Dang’s Ghorahi Sub Metropolitan City and Tilak Oli of Salyan’s Chhatreshwari Rural Municipality-2. 

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Govinda Thapa, Saylan Police Chief said that eight passengers died on the spot while others breathed their last while undergoing treatment. 

As many as 19 passengers have been injured during the accident. Five seriously injured passengers were airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment, according to police. 

The bus (Ra 1 Kha 2552), bound to Tulsipur, Dang from Jaypani, Salyan with 31 passengers, skidded some 200 meters off the road at Kapurkot-5, Salyan at around 11. 

Police said that overspeeding and dilapidated road conditions could be the reasons behind the accident. 

The driver of the vehicle absconded soon after the accident. 

Most of those traveling on the bus were reportedly returning to their homes after observing the Bhai Tika festival.
