Bhanu Jayanti today
Kathmandu - The country is celebrating the 204th Bhanu Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Adikavi ( pioneering Nepali poet) Bhanu Bhakta Acharya, by organising various programmes.
Bhanubhakta who translated the 'Adhyatma Ramayana', the great Hindu epic, from the Sanskrit to Nepali has significant contribution to the promotion of Nepali language and literature.
He was born to Dharmawati Devi (mother) and Dhananjay Acharya (father) on the 29th Asar of 1871 BS at Chundiramgha, Tanahu district. He earned fame in the Nepali literature with the translation of the Ramayana. His other works are 'Prashnottar', 'Bhaktamala', 'Badhusiksha', 'Ramgeeta' and other short poems.
Darjeeling, the Indian state of West Bengal, also observes the Bhanu Jayanti every year.
He had passed away on Ashoj 6, 1923 BS.
