Police make public four suspects of trader Mahara 'murder' case

KATHMANDU, September 25: The police have made public four suspects in connection with the ‘murder' of a trader Kamal Singh Mahara on Saturday organizing a press conference in Baitadi district.

The accused have been identified as Ram Bahadur Madai of Surnaya Rural Municipality-5 in Baitadi district and Shankar Singh Mahara, Harish Singh Mahara and Ram Bahadur Mahara, all from the rural municipality-4. However, the police released other three arrestees after failing to establish their connection to the 'murder', according to inspector Bodh Raj Ojha. 

Kamal Singh of the rural municipality-4, who runs a meat shop in the locality, was found dead at Sanserimandau on Thursday. 

The police suspected that he was murdered as he sustained wounds in his head, chest and other body parts. Following the incident, police had launched an investigation. A team led by Police Inspector Rajesh Shahi, chief of the Area Police Office, Patan, had carried out an investigation into the case. 

The suspects have been kept in police custody at the Area Police Office. The district court has extended police custody of the suspects by seven days.
