There are seven conditions for MCC to be endorsed: Chairman Nepal

KATHMANDU, September 17: Stating that the CPN (Unified Socialist) has seven conditions for the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC) of the United States of America, Chairman of the party Madhav Kumar Nepal has made it clear that the American grant assistant project won’t be ratified from parliament any time soon.

Inaugurating the party office, Chairman Nepal also accused the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of trying to endorse MCC in haste.

“When the CPN (UML) was not split, the then PM Oli made the Foreign Minister and Health Minister sign the agreement and did his best to endorse the MCC,” said Nepal.

According to Chairman Nepal, MCC has been given seven conditions that await ratification from parliament. “Does Nepal require to be under any security umbrella? If so, we don’t accept it,” maintained Nepal.

“Secondly, we won’t accept any activities against Nepal’s independent foreign policy and Panchsheel policy. Likewise, we cannot afford any kind of policies that aim to ruin our relation with neighbouring countries,” said Nepal.

“Besides, MCC should make it clear that our sovereignty comes first when it comes to project implementation. The project’s intellectual property must have Nepal’s rights and Nepali must get employment opportunities as well,” chairman Nepal further elaborated.

Similarly, Nepal also stressed that auditing of the project must be the responsibility of the Office of Auditor General.
