PM Deuba urges all to focus on delivering accessible, quality education

KATHMANDU, September 15: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged entire stakeholders to lay emphasis on advancing campaign for accessible and quality education for all. 

Inaugurating a building of Namuna Machchhindra Secondary School in Lalitpur on Wednesday, he stressed that all stakeholders should pay attention towards enhancing quality education following the physical improvement of the school. 

PM Deuba, who has also taken the portfolio of Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, shared that the government has been operating various educational programmes to improve quality of community school education and pledged to implement further interventions to that end. 

He expressed happiness to know remarkable number of students pursuing their education at this school in the context when students’ attraction is stated waning in community schools. 

The Prime Minister expressed his happiness over the reconstruction of the earthquake-ravaged school with necessary infrastructure on the finding support of the Government of Japan. He thanked all for creating an enabling environment for visually-impaired students to pursue their education in the school. 

The school was constructed at the cost of Rs 120.3 million with the loan assistance of Japan. 

Prime Minister Deuba extended sincere thanks to the Government of Japan on behalf of Nepal government for its selfless support in the areas of education, health and disaster risk reduction in Nepal. 

Also speaking on the occasion, Minister for Energy, Water Resource and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal said through the earthquake had incurred big loss of lives and properties in the country it also created opportunity to reconstruct the schools with decrepit conditions. 

The present budget is not sufficient to advance education, which is also constitutionally enshrined as a fundamental rights, she said, adding the government’s objective would be realized if the available budget and planned programmes were implemented in a result-oriented manner. 

Informing about the progress made on reconstruction of earthquake-damaged structures, National Reconstruction Authority’s Chief Executive Officer Sushil Gyawali said it was made possible only with the collective efforts from all sides. 

Lalitpur Metropolis Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan pointed out the need of educational quality improvement in community schools and also drew the attention of stakeholders to keep on maintaining the newly-constructed and reconstructed schools. 

School management committee chair Sudarshan Mishra thanked all actors and stakeholders for their cooperation in the reconstruction of the school.
