No differing views in UML regarding MCC:  Deputy General Secretary Poudel

LUMBINI, September 8: CPN (UML) Deputy General Secretary Bishnu Prasad Poudel has said there are no differing views within the party regarding the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact. As he said the UML would clarify its position on the matter once the government introduced the MCC proposal to the parliament.

Speaking at a press conference organized by Press Chautari Nepal, Rupandehi in Butwal today, leader Poudel said that the UML’s stance would be centered on interest of the nation and the people. He claimed that partners in the coalition government were not unanimous on the MCC issue.

Referring to the recent split of Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction from the party to form the CPN (Unified Socialist), he said the party was not divided rather it was a beginning of a new course of life. As he alleged, the new development in the part was for greed and opportunities, not for the ideology and philosophy.

The leader took the time to claim that the Ordinance Relating to Political Parties that led to the split in the UML would not be passed by the parliament under any circumstances.

The press meet was organised to unveil the decisions of party’s Lumbini Province meeting.
The meeting has decided to make efforts for the constructive implementation of a 10-point agreement prepared by the taskforce for the purpose of party unification, taking the document positively.

As per the agreement, the meeting has chosen the party leadership in the province and districts.

Leela Giri has been  picked as the chairperson of the UML provincial committee, Khem Bahadur Khadka as the vice chairperson, Bhumishwar Dhakal as the secretary, Durga Tharu as the deputy secretary and Balram Adhikari as the secretary of the provincial office. Likewise, the meeting has elected the leadership for 12 districts under the province as well.
