UML to file writ petition against EC today
KATHMANDU, September 1: The main opposition party, CPN (UML) has begun preparation to file a writ petition against the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday.
Stating that the poll body passed a controversial decision regarding the registration of the new parties, the CPN (UML) is all set to file a case against the commission, according to Bishal Bhattarai, the chief whip of the party.
"As per the decision of a central committee meeting, the party is making preparations to file a writ petition at the apex court against the Election Commission," said Sher Bahadur Tamang, secretary at the Central Office of UML.
Earlier, the CPN (UML) sacked its 14 lawmakers including the senior leader, Madhav Kumar Nepal, from their post. Later, 30 lawmakers including these lawmakers and 55 other central members registered a new political party named CPN (Unified Maoist) at the Election Commission.
