NC’s Poudel faction discusses with agitating district presidents
KATHMANDU, Aug 28: Rival faction in the ruling Nepali Congress (NC), led by senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, has held a discussion with the agitating district presidents of the party.
The meeting between the Poudel faction and the district presidents close to the faction, who have been staging a relay hunger strike, was held at the private residence of former general secretary, Prakash Man Singh.
The district leaders were briefed about the meeting with President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday. Leaders close to Poudel held a meeting with Deuba at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar.
Jagdishwor Narsingh KC (Nuwakot), Ramesh Dhamala (Dhading), and Sabuj Baniya (Kathmandu) were among those present in the meeting.
NC is scheduled to hold the district-level conventions on September 3. Deuba, at Friday's meeting, assured leaders of holding district conventions on the scheduled date.
The 14th General Convention of the Party is scheduled to be held from November 25 to 29. The party is yet to settle the active membership dispute. Of the 77 districts, a list of active members of 48 districts has only been published on the party’s website.
Meanwhile, leaders including Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Minendra Rijal, and Ramesh Lekhak are preparing to visit the Sanepa-based party office to convince the agitating district leaders.
