14 lawmakers, 17 central committee members authenticate Thakur-led DSP

KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Lawmakers of the federal parliament and central committee members of the newly formed Democratic Socialist Party (DSP), led by Mahantha Thakur, reached the Election Commission and authenticated their support to the party.

A splinter faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) had applied for the registration of DSP. The poll body summoned the CC members and MPs to verify their signatures.

Meanwhile, 14 members of the federal parliament and 17 CC members reached the commission on Wednesday afternoon for verification.

The JSP had 34 lawmakers in the federal parliament including the House of Representatives (HoR) and National Assembly (NA).

With this, the DSP is likely to get the party registration certificate from the election body.

Easing the process for party-split, the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government had introduced an ordinance which allows either 20 percent members of parliamentary party or central committee each to form a new party.

Meanwhile, the lawmakers and central committee members of the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led NCP (Unified Socialist) also reached the poll body on Wednesday itself to authenticate the new party.
