Prabhuram Sharma to lead Nepal Army as acting CoAS starting Aug 10

KATHMANDU, Aug 1: President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has designated Prabhuram Sharma as the acting Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) of the Nepal Army with effect from August 10.

Releasing a public statement on Sunday afternoon, spokesperson for the President's Office, Jagannath Pant,shared that President Bhandari approved the government’s decision to designate Lieutenant General Sharma as per the Chapter 8(3) of theArmy Act-2006. 

The three-year tenure of Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa is due to end on September 9 and he will stay on home leave from August 8. 

Sharma will be appointed the CoAS in a month's time.

A Cabinet meeting held on July 27 decided to assign the responsibility of acting chief.
