Barekot Rural Municipality demands food to last rainy season
JAJARKOT, June 25: The Barekot Rural Municipality in the district has demanded for 9,000 quintals of rice for the rainy season.
The Municipality chair Mahendra Shah shared that the food stock was needed for the municipality as the road section might get obstructed due to flood and landslide in the areas in the rainy season, resulting in disruption in the food supply and thus food shortage. Shah added that they have urged the Food Management and Trade Company to provide the food in subsidy.
The local food production is not adequte for the whole year in the rural municipality and the locals are dependent on food grain supply from outside. He further shared that 73 families in Barekot Rural Municipality-4 are still living under the tents for past one year as their houses were damaged in natural disaster last year.
A local famer Janak Bahadur Shahi complained that they were facing food shortage every year as their crops are damaged by landslide and heavy rains in the rainy season. He added that the district connected with road network by only one road section may disrupt any time in the rainy season.
Meanwhile, a temporary shelter has been established in Birendra Himalaya Secondary School to rescue the locals from possible natural disasters in the locality.
