Former Ministers facing challenge to protect legacy

-Nawadeep Shrestha
Trisuli, Nuwakot, Central leaders, who have achieved national fame, are facing rising challenges to protect their past glory as the day to the first phase of elections draws closer. The election is taking place here on November 26.
Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, who has been winning elections in Nuwakot since 2051 B.S., is having to toil very hard this time. It’s the same condition of Arjun Narsingh KC, who has been standing in elections since 2038 B.S. And this is a result of the communist alliance forged for the elections, otherwise it was a stronghold of the Nepali Congress so far.
NC candidates won all the three constituencies in Nuwakot in the 2070 B.S. second election to the constituent assembly. Likewise, Congress won seven of the 12 local levels in the recently held local level elections.
Based on the votes won by the winning candidates, in the local elections, NC had received 44,118 votes followed by CPN-UML who received 42,012 and CPN-MC that received 34,278 votes.
Furthermore, the Naya Shakti Party Nepal, a member of the NC-led democratic alliance also has its own candidate in the elections in Nuwakot.
Dr Mahat however claims that the voters would trust him again due to his past contribution in the prosperity of Nuwakot. "The competition has become tough due to the leftist alliance but I am still strong," he said.
The leftist alliance candidate in constituency no. 1 facing Dr Mahat is Hit Bahadur Tamang of CPN-MC, who believes that the support this time of the voters will be for him as they are looking forward to a change.
In constituency no. 2, congress leader Arjun Nar Singh KC is facing UML's Narayan Prasad Khatiwada.
