COVID-19: 7,368 new cases, 145 deaths reported in past 24 hours

6,648 patients recover on Sunday

KATHMANDU, May 16: As many as 7,368 more people were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the past 24 hours. 

Of the total cases confirmed on Sunday, 7,316 were detected through the RT-PCR tests while 52 others were through the antigen tests, according to Dr Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP). 

Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Valley, where Nepal’s central capital lies, added 2,609 new cases including those  292 in Bhaktapur, 436 in Lalitpur and 1,881 in Kathmandu districts. 

Spokesperson Dr Gautam also shared that 6,648 patients gained recovery in the past 24 hours taking Nepal's recovery rate to 74.6 percent. 

A total of 145 patients, however, succumbed to the disease. With this, Nepal’s COVID-19 death tally surpasses a grim mark of 5,001. Nepal reported the first death case on this day last year.
