These districts report 100 plus COVID-19 cases on Friday, country’s casetally hits 294,601

KATHMANDU, April 24: Four districts reported more than 100 single-day rise of COVID-19 cases on Friday. 

According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), Kathmandu district confirmed the highest number of cases. The district reported 760 cases alone on Friday. Similarly, Banke, a district in the south-western Nepal, has turned into another COVID-19 hotspot as 354 people tested positive for the deadly virus on Friday. 

COVID-19 updates released by the ministry shows that Rupandehi is another worst-hit district with 221 new cases. Lalitpur, one of three districts in the Kathmandu Valley, witnessed 106 new infections. 

Nepal has been witnessing a sharp rise in the new cases of the coronavirus disease triggered by a new variant. The daily-count of COVID-19 cases on Friday stood at 2,559 --- 2,449 through RT-PCR tests and 110 through antigen tests. With this, Nepal’s overall caseload hit 294,601. 

As many as 1.05 percent of the total infected patients have so far succumbed to the disease since the first death was reported on May 16 last year.
