Necessary to disseminate news with positive message on elections
Kathmandu - Election Commissioner Ila Sharma has urged the journalists to disseminate election-related news in a responsible manner as the democracy could be institutionalized through the dissemination of objective and credible news.
She said this while inaugurating a training programme on 'election and communications' organized for journalists working in the national media published and broadcast from the capital, here today.
Commissioner Sharma also stated that the Election Commission has felt that the journalists have knowledge about the sensitivity of the election related news owing to the fact that professional development of journalism is taking place in Nepal.
The commission has been organizing various training and orientation programmes aimed at contributing to conduct the House of Representatives and State Assembly elections slated for November 26 and December 7 in a free, fair and dignified manner.
Similarly, another commissioner Narendra Dahal stressed that the news media should disseminate news giving positive message for public opinion building and for informing the voters.
Commission secretary Begendra Raj Sharma Poudyal called on the journalists to disseminate the election-friendly information based on truth and facts in an impartial manner by becoming responsible.
"It is necessary to incessantly disseminate information to aware the political parties and make the voters well-informed for holding the upcoming elections also in a smooth and peaceful manner," he added.
Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) president Govinda Acharya said like during the local level elections the entire media was ready to collect and disseminate news and information related to elections in a healthy and dignified way in the upcoming elections also.
Election Commission spokesman Nawaraj Dhakal highlighted the objectives of the training. Sixty journalists covering the election beat are participating in the training.
