NSU calls for investigation into assault

Kathmandu - The Nepal Students Union (NSU) has demanded investigation into the physical assault on lecturer at Tribhuvan University, Prem Bahadur Chalaune. Issuing a press release today, NSU president Rajib Dhungana called for the immediate arrest of the culprits and bringing them to justice.

"The attack on the lecturer has been carried out under the direction of the University's officials with the scheming of not implementing the agreement reached through talks as a result of peaceful movement," Dhungana said, adding that the attack was an attempt aimed at tarnishing the NSU.

He also expressed regrets over what he called false propaganda linking with the incident the name of a student who was staying in isolation following coronavirus infection two days before the incident. The NSU has also called for withdrawing the trumped up case against this student.

The physical assault on lecturer at the Central Department of Sociology, Chalaune, happened inside the Central Campus premises on October 6. NSU general secretary Deepak Bhattarai has said that an academic place should not be made a place for politics.
