Govt provides Rs 6.1 million compensation to Dhorpatan flood and landslide survivors

Kathmandu - The Ministry of Home Affairs has provided Rs 6.1 million to the families of those who died in the landslide and flood at Dhorpatan Municipality in Baglung district on September 2 this year. The Ministry released the amount and provided it to the survivors through the District Administration Office, Baglung.

In the fateful incident occurred in night had resulted in 22 casualties and 15 persons missing. Seven families in the locality lost more than a single member of their family in this disaster while 127 houses were swept away by the flood. The families all the victims, dead, injured and missing ones, of the incident were distributed the compensation, according to the Chief District Officer (CDO) of Baglung, Suresh Neupane.

The family who lost a single member of its family were provided Rs 200,000 while those loosing more than one person in the natural disasters received additional Rs 300,000, informed CDO Neupane. Similarly, those whose houses were rendered inhabitable in the incident were provided Rs 15,000 each.

CDO Neupane explained that those who were left at lurch due to the disasters had been provided the amount. Other whose houses sustained partial damages would also avail the compensation but gradually, said Neupane. The children rendered orphans due to losing their parents or close relatives in the tragedy received the compensation.

Altogether 23 children were handed over the compensation in the witness of the local representatives, locals and their rest of the family members. The juvenile children would be however eligible to use that amounts they become adults, said Neupane adding, “We have deposited the compensation amount in a bank under their names to prevent misuse of the fund. They would avail the amount as they turn an adult.”
