Health Ministry directs construction of temporary health institutions at local level

Kathmandu - The Ministry of Health ad Population has directed 649 local levels lacking health institutions to construct a temporary five-bed hospital each. The direction comes through the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration acting on a Cabinet decision in this regard on August 29, amidst the health institutions at local levels lacking beds to admit COVID-19 infected people.

This directive is for the treatment of the people infected and to prevent and control the infection, said the Ministry's co-spokesperson Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari. So far, there are 48,138 infected people in the country. Of them, 32,964 have got over the infection and 306 succumbed.

Local levels will decide on how to manage such hospitals and their operation. Each of the health institutions will have two doctors, two nurses and an office assistant. The Ministry will provide additional budget based on the progress of the hospitals, said Dr Adhikari. It has been providing Rs 200,000 to each bed of the hospitals through the Treasury and Comptroller General Office.
