Seven-member taskforce to forge democratic alliance
Kathmandu - A decision has been made to constitute a seven-member taskforce to forge democratic alliance under the leadership of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) in the upcoming polls of House of Representatives and State Assemblies.
A meeting of the NC, Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Nepal Democratic Forum, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Democratic) and Federal Socialist Forum Nepal held at the call of Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba took a decision to this effect.
The decision to form a democratic alliance comes just a day after the country's major communist parties announced their alliance for the upcoming elections on Tuesday.
The taskforce comprises two members from NC and one each from all other five political parties, NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi said. Nidhi said that the taskforce was formed to do homework as unity of democratic forces was necessity of the country in the current situation.
The parties would submit the names of the leaders to be included in the taskforce on Thursday morning.
The meeting also seriously and intensively discussed the ongoing initiatives carried out for unification of the CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Centre) and Naya Shakti Nepal.
Nidhi added that all the leaders present at the meeting made their commitments to move ahead to conduct the polls in the slated timeframe.
Likewise, NC leader Nidhi said that incumbent government would conduct the government adding that the six political parties boast of 302 lawmakers.
