Over 4,000 coronavirus infected people recover in Sudurpaschim

By Bimal Bahadur Bista, Kathmandu - More than four thousand people have recovered from COVID-19 in Sudurpaschim State. This many people won the battle against the pandemic in all the nine districts of the state so far. The number of infected people in the state is 5,406 so far and of them nine have died of the viral disease, the Sudurpaschim Province Health Directorate Dipayal Rajpur said. The highest number of infected recovering is from Kailali district. One thousand 301 infected persons have returned home after health recovery in the district, followed by 713 persons from Achham, 581 from Kanchanpur, 576 from Doti, 442 from Bajura, 322 from Baitadi, 299 from Dadeldhura, 110 from Bajhang and 41 from Darchula.

The number of active cases in the State is 929. Sixty three people who have been confirmed of infection and showing signs are receiving treatment at various hospitals, according to Health Director Ganaraj Awasthi. He said 23 infected are being treated at Mahakali Hospital in Kanchanpur, 14 infected persons are being treated at the Seti Provincial Hospital Kailali, 11 infected persons are under treatment at Tikapur Hospital, 10 people are under treatment at the District Hospital Achham, two persons each at the District Hospital Doti and the Dadeldhura Sub-regional Hospital and one infected person is under treatment at Malakheti Hospital. The rest of the infected are said to be in isolation at isolation facilities at the local level and at their home.

It is said the corona infected people are facing problem due to the shortage of isolation beds at the local levels in various districts of this state. The infected people and their families are also facing hard times as they are being stigmatized in society, said Khadak Bahadur Bogati of Kapalleki, Shikhar Municipality. A 34-year-old man of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-5 had tested positive for coronavirus on March 27. This was the first corona case in the Sudurpaschim state.

He who had returned from Dubai recovered his health after treatment at the Seti Hospital for 30 days. The number of coronavirus infected persons in the State has crossed 5,000. Coronavirus is seen mostly in India-returnees and their family members lately, according to health workers. The Directorate has said although there is risk, COVID is not yet seen at community level in the state. Meanwhile, the flow of Nepalis entering the country across the border from India has stopped in recent days.
