Lidi settlements to be translocated

Kathmandu - Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has said that the Lidi settlement in Jugal rural municipality of Sindhupalchowk will be shifted to a proper location. He said this after returning from an onsite inspection of the landslide-hit area on Friday. Eleven people have died while 27 remain missing in the landslide that swept away houses in Lidi yesterday morning. Minister Thapa said more damage was averted due to preparedness.

Furthermore, the government has speeded up rescue and relief work while the reconstruction will begin immediately. On Friday, the Home Minister had reached the site along with relief materials. On the occasion, he said that the site had been declared vulnerable by the local administration urging the residents to exercise caution.

"However, the unfortunate incident took place as people had returned early morning after spending the night in safer location," he said. The process to relocate the settlement to an appropriate location will begin soon after the rescue and relief work is completed. Relief materials sufficient for 40 families were delivered on the occasion. On behalf of the government, Minister Thapa also handed over 200 thousand rupees in cash an immediate relief support.
