Flood displaces thousands of people in Kailali

Kathmandu - Hundreds of people have been displaced due to flood following incessant rainfall in Kailali district. The highest number of people of Bhajani municipality has been displaced due to incessant rainfall from Tuesday night. The flood has displace some 2,200 households of Bhajani municipality. A local Kushum Dhami said that around 10,000 citizens of Bhajani municipality have been shifted to safer places.

Mayor of Bhajani municipality, Sher Bahadur Chaudhary, said, "We have rescued and shifted to thousands of people to after places with support of security personnel , people's representatives and locals." He added some people have been living under tents on the road in lack of safer place, adding that problem has been surfaced to spent night due to incessant rainfall.

The ward no 8 of Bhajani municipality has been completely displaced while hundreds of families have also been displaced after ward no 2 and 3 have been inundated. Mayor Chaudhary shared that the municipality has been involved to make arrangement of food, tents and drinking water to displaced families and the municipality has been getting support from all sectors including Red Cross, locals in this task.

Tikapur, Bhajani, Lamkichuha, Ghodaghodi municipalities and Joshipur, Janaki and Bardagoriya ruram municipalities have been inundated while 1,132 citizens of Tikapur municipality have been shifted to safer place. Likewise, 390 families of Tikapur 6,7 and 9 hae been rescued after Patharaiya river entered the settlement.

Mayor of Tikapur municipality, Tapendra Bahadur Rawal said the displaced families have been kept at schools. They have not been able to collect the details of the damages due to incessant rainfall. The rainfall also damaged banana cultivated on eight bighas of land at Tikapur-7.
