Water level in Karnali river reaches near danger zone

Kathmandu - The water level in the Karnali river has shot up to near the danger zone. The water level reached 10.10 meters until midday today, said Inspector Dirgha Bahadur Bogati, chief of the area police office at Chisapani in Kailali district. Water level hitting 11 meters is considered to be danger. An alert has been issued for downstream in Bardiya and Kailali districts, said Bogati.

Many settlements at Bhajani municipality, Janaki rural municipality, Joshipur rural municipality and Tikapur municipality in Kailali district have been submerged by the flooded river, said Superintendent of Police of Armed Police Force Kamal Timsina. "It has been informed that around 1,500 houses in the southern and southeast areas of the district have been deluged. Security personnel have been deployed to rescue and take the victims to safety."
