Monsoon-induced disaster losses in State 2: three missing, 845 displaced

Kathmandu - Three people have gone missing in water-induced disasters while numerous settlement have been inundated in the State 2 when the monsoon is at its peak. Sukumani Thing of Chandrapur municipality-3 in Rautahat was swept away by the local Chandi River on Tuesday.

Similarly the Ratu River in Mohattari swept away Birendra Kapar, 35, of Bhangaha municipality-6 on Tuesday as he was trying to cross the river. The third missing is a person from Sarlahi whose identity is yet to be ascertained. Two people caught up in the swollen Bagmati River at Bagmati municipality-12 in Sarlahi were rescued by by the police.

The entered the river to collect wooden logs brought by the river. According to State government office spokesperson Makendra Mishra, 845 people of 69 families have been displaced from rain and floods in several districts in the State. Normal life in most of districts in the central Terai has thrown out of gear due to rains and floods.

Rice crops cultivated in around 350 of land at Prasauni rural municipality 5 and 6 has been damaged by the floods from Bangari and Dudhaura rivers. Similarly, paddy crops panted on over 100 bigha of land at Bhodaha, Sonarniya and Khamba at Kalaiya sub metropolis-21 was damaged by the flood from Pasaha River.

Life has been badly affected after most part inside the Birgunj metropolis was submerged by the rain waters. Most rural municipalities in western Parsa have lost mutual telecommunications connectivity due to floods and rains. Movements of people and vehicles have been hampered by muddy roadways. Most settlement in Parsagadhi municipality were inundated by the flood in the Singahi River. Rain for the past few days has inundated dozens of villages in western parts of the district .
