Tender for projects to be completed within a fiscal year to be called by mid-September

Kathmandu - Minister for Physical Infrastructures and Transportation Basanta Kumar Nembang has pledged to issue tender notice by mid-September for the projects to be completed within a fiscal year. In today’s meeting of the parliamentary committee for Development and Technology, Minister Nembang reaffirmed his commitment to make tender notice in the beginning of this new fiscal year and before the festivals such as Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.

“All development works to be undertaken by the Ministry will be completed in time,” he said. On a different note, the Minister said that his Ministry was hit by human resources crunch. There is vacancy for 13 first class officer, 40 second class officer, 116 engineers and 150 sub-engineers in the Ministry and its line agencies.” Over 1,500 bridges were under-construction across the country.

Among them, according to the Minister, only 200 to 300 bridges could be completed within one year. Ministry Secretary Devendra Karki underscored the need for timely completion of the ongoing projects rather than commencing completely new projects. The federal government was currently constructing road bridges in local and states, according to Karki.

Director General at the Department of Road Keshav Kumar Sharma claimed that the development works were carried out in December instead of June. He also added that although bridges were built crossing deadline, bridges were built ahead of deadline in some places.
