Over 128 thousand people to be affected by rain-induced disaster in Chitwan

Kathmandu - The District Disaster Management Committee, Chitwan, has predicted that 128,665 people would be affected in the district due to rainfall induced disaster. The meeting of the Committee estimated that such number of people of seven local levels in the district would be affected. 

Chief District Officer, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, said that 88 places are at risk of erosion and 71 places of inundation due to rainfall in the district and 25,733 households would be affected due to this. He added that preparation has been made to inform people of the risk-prone areas to make them safe from the disaster, to identify public place, to identify place to land helicopter for the rescue, to keep security personnel in ready position for the rescue and relief in case of disaster.

Bhattarai further said that Red Cross Society's branches in the disaster-prone areas have been urged to remain in ready position for the rescue and relief task during disaster. Mainly Narayani river, Rapti river and Reu rivulet following through the district encroached and inundated the different places of the district. There is risk of landslide at hilly areas of the district.

Ward no 29 of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Ichchhakamana rural municipality, Kalika municipality and Rapti municipality are at the risk of landslide. Water level of the rivers in the district has increased due to incessant rainfall fort the past two days. Seven local levels of the district have appealed the people to adopt high precaution and alertness to be safe from flood and landslide.
