NHRC calls for intensifying PCR test for COVID-19

Kathmandu  - The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the government to make additional measures to prevent and control the spread of coronavirus by identifying more vulnerable areas and areas worst affected by the virus. The human rights watch body also wants the government to amplify the virus test through PCR procedure.

In a press statement today, the NHRC said it sought the government's timely attention towards the possibility of arrival of worst moments if the virus gets time to spread in community with dense settlement like the Kathmandu Valley and again urged the government to intensify the PCR test so as to ensure citizen's right relating to health.

It has said it was concerned about the media report that the virus was detected in the Valley's drainage when it is rising rapidly in the country. Through the statement, it has reminded that it had earlier urged the government time and again for extending the PCR coverage and proper handling of quarantine centers after monitoring the state of human rights during the COVID-19 crisis.

The monitoring was carried out in support of Nepal Bar Association, Federation of Nepali Journalists and NGO Federation.
