Learning and discussion regarding scientific management of forest insufficient

Kathmandu - Minister for Forest and Environment, Shakti Bahadur Basnet, has said that learning and discussion about scientific forest management implemented for sustainable management of forest is found to be insufficient. Responding to queries raised by lawmakers over different headings of his ministry under Appropriation Bill-2077 in National Assembly meeting held on Wednesday, Minister Basnet said, “the programme was introduced in 2069 BS and has been mentioned regularly in the policy and programme since then".

The Forest Minister shared that the ministry would forward the afforestation programme linking with agriculture and herb and not merely as timber products. Master Plan of President Chure Tarai-Madhesh Conservation Development Committee has been prepared and programmes would be focused on upper level from coming fiscal year as it has been focused on lower level so far, he added. Minister Basnet opined that programmes including enterprises based on forest, herbs development and agro forest have been run under the ‘Forest for Prosperity’ programme.
