New mother in Bhaktapur Hospital dies, Hospital closes its service in suspicion of COVID-19

Kathmandu - A new mother who was admitted to Bhaktapur Hospital in Bhaktapur district following a labour pain died on Sunday night. The Hospital has shut down all its services assuming that the deceased woman could have died due to COVID-19 and the infection could spread among other patients and Hospital staffs. The 36-year-old woman who is from Lisankhu Rural Municipality-3 in Sindhupalchowk district and currently staying in Changunarayan Municipality-3 was admitted to the Hospital on Sunday evening.

She died after half an hour she went into labour. She was suffering from cough and respiratory related problems, informed the health workers attending to the deceased woman. She had tested positive for COVID-19 when her nasal and throat swabs were tested through RDT procedure. Hospital’s medical superintendent Dr Sumitra Gautam shared that until the PCR test report of the deceased one does not come, none could ascertain the cause of the new mother’s demise.

The Hospital has been observing precautions to prevent the spread of infection if the deceased had contracted the flu-like infection. The deceased woman had been regularly visiting KMC Hospital for her routine checkup. The Hospital has closed its services since June 2 after some of the KMC staffers had contracted the infection. The dead body of woman has been kept in delivery ward of the Hospital while the new born is said to be healthy and doing well, the Hospital said.
