Discrimination in the provision of Citizenship: Anup Raj Sharma
Kathmandu– Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Anup Raj Sharma has said that there is discrimination in the provision of citizenship.
Speaking at a program on 'International Laws against Statelessness', Chairman Sharma said. "The constitution has conflicts regarding citizenship provisions", he said.
"But if father is a Nepali and mother a foreigner, there is no problem. The basis of ancestry starts from a man.” Sharma said that the provision that children will be descendant when father is Nepali and won't be descendant when mother is a foreigner or Nepali is discriminatory in itself.
With the aim of informing women about how appropriate the national convention is in terms of nationality, it has been released in Nepali translation of the book 'International Laws against Statelessness'. The program was organized by National Women's Commission and Development Forum.
