NBA representatives meet PM Deuba
KATHMANDU, November 25: A day after the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) staged a march past from the Supreme Court (SC) to Baluwatar pressuring Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana to step down, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and representatives of the agitating NBA and SC justices meet to chalk out possible solutions to the disputes on Friday.
The meeting was held at the Prime Minister Deuba’s Office Residence at Baluwatar for more than 30 minutes.
“We called for efforts from the government and the ruling Nepali Congress to settle the disputes at the apex court,” said Lila Mani Poudel, General Secretary of the NBA.
“We have also submitted a similar letter to PM Deuba that was earlier sent to Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota and the political parties in the federal parliament stating 17 reasons why CJ Rana must step down,” Poudel further stated.
Along with representatives of the agitating NBA, former Speaker Damannath Dhungana, senior advocate Bhadri Bahadur Karki, Harihar Dahal, Sambhu Thapa and Prem Bahadur Khadka also expressed their opinion during the meeting.
On his part, PM Deuba committed to find a solution to the intensified disputes at the apex court in a few days after holding discussions with leaders of the ruling alliance, according to general secretary Poudel.
The NBA and some of the fellow justices of SC have been staging protests demanding the resignation of CJ Rana for the past few weeks.
The association also held a march past to protest against CJ Rana from SC to Baluwatar on Thursday and have been staging sit-in protests in SC and high courts across the country.
