KMC sends fine notice via email and post to UML
Kathmandu, November 25 — After the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) refused to accept the fine notice issued by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City in person, the notice has been sent via post and email.
On Sunday, a team from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City went to the UML Central Office in Chyasal with the fine notice. However, the employees at UML headquarters did not receive the letter, stating that the UML Central Office was not the organizer of the awareness assembly.
Since the physical delivery was refused on Sunday, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City sent the letter via email and post. SSP Rajunath Pandey, head of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police, confirmed, "On Monday morning, we sent the letter to UML via both post and email."
The fine notice was issued after the UML's awareness assembly in Darbar Marg on Friday, accusing them of causing pollution and imposing a fine of one lakh rupees. However, UML has claimed that the Mayor of Kathmandu, Balen Shah, has been using this issue as a political stunt.
UML officials also mentioned that right after the event, their volunteers collected the trash at the location and requested the city to send a truck for disposal. They were upset when instead of sending a truck, the city issued the fine notice.
The UML expressed anger towards Mayor Balen Shah. In response, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has stated that they will collect the fine, come what may.
