Maoist Centre and CPN (US) reach electoral alliance for Kathmandu by-elections
Kathmandu, November 16 — The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) and the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist) have reached an agreement to form an electoral alliance for the upcoming local level by-elections, which will be held in two constituencies in Kathmandu.
According to the agreement, the Unified Socialist will support the Maoist Centre's mayoral candidate in Kirtipur Municipality, while the Maoist Centre will back the Unified Socialist's candidate for the ward chair in Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 16.
This decision was made during a joint meeting of the two parties held on Saturday.
The meeting agreed that the Unified Socialist would support the Maoist Centre's candidate, Shiva Sharan Maharjan, for the position of mayor in Kirtipur Municipality.
In return, the Maoist Centre will support the Unified Socialist's candidate, Min Bahadur Manandhar, for the position of ward chair in Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Ward No. 16.
