Govt amends passport rules, adds AIGs to list of eligible recipients

Kathmandu, November 15 — The Additional Inspector Generals (AIGs) of the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force are now eligible to receive diplomatic passports (red passports).

The government has amended the Passport Rules, adding AIGs to the list of individuals eligible for passports. This list now includes the Additional Chief Director of the National Investigation Department and the Major General of the Nepal Army as well.

Previously, the list included secretaries of the Nepal government, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Inspector General of Police.

The amendment also introduces changes to the provisions for issuing regular and temporary passports in special circumstances.

In cases where passports are lost, damaged, or require issuance for other reasons, the duration of the one-way travel permit (issued in such cases) has been fixed at 5 months.
