TU Associate Professor Chalaune goes on hunger strike in front of TU VC Office after release
KATHMANDU, June 19: Tribhuwan University’s Associate Professor Prem Chalaune has been released from Police custody.
Professor Chalaune was arrested by the Police after he went to the Kathmandu District Court to protest the government’s decision to withdraw the case of the beating incident against him. The Police had detained him in the Police Circle at Singhadurbar.
After being released, Chalaune has gone on a hunger strike in front of the Tribhuwan University VC Office. He went on a hunger strike after organizing a Press Conference on Monday evening.
On October 6, 2020, the workers of the Nepal Students Association, including TU Nepal Students Association Chairman Hari Acharya, attacked the Associate Professor of Sociology, Chalaune. There was a case against 5 people including Acharya in the District Court Kathmandu. The final hearing of the case was scheduled for Tuesday.
However, even before that, the government decided to withdraw the case against the workers of the Nepal Students Association. Following the government's decision, Chalaune decided to go on a hunger strike.
