Syrian army captures border areas with Jordan
DAMASCUS - The Syrian army and allied troops wrested control over border areas with Jordan in the countryside of Sweida province in southern Syria, a well-informed source told Xinhua on Thursday.
The Syrian forces captured all border points and border police stations within the southern countryside of Sweida following battles with the rebels, the Sweida-based source said on condition of anonymity.Sweida has no official border crossings with Jordan, as the official crossings with the southern neighbor was through the southern province of Daraa.
During the war, however, the rebels in the countryside of Sweida have established illegal routes to Jordan.The official border crossings in Daraa are still under the control of the rebels.
