Nepal has enmity with none: PM Oli

New York –Amity with all, and enmity with none remains at the heart of Nepal’s foreign policy. This is inspired by the principles of UN Charter, Panchasheel, non-alignment, international law, and norms of world peace," Prime Minister KPSharma Oli said. 

Giving his remarks at a programme on 'Peace, Democracy and Development' organised by the Asia Society, New York on September 25, the Prime Minister said the previous generation who were ordinary peasants, had to fight to free themselves from the clutches of feudalism and oppressive regime. Their struggle uprooted the despotic family rule of Ranas. Now the country has a federal republic democratic constitution promulgated through the Constituent Assembly. 
Stating that in the course of history, political gains in Nepal had not come without heavy price, he said several compatriots made ultimate sacrifice and got martyrdom for the same. Many lived in political exile while others were brutalized and suppressed. 

He took a moment to recall the Nepal's armed conflict that began in 1996 and was successfully resolved through the Comprehensive Peace Accord signed in November 2006. 

The Prime Minister went on to say that his government had set a long set a long-term goal of “Prosperous Nepal and Happy Nepali” to sustain the political gains and deliver on the development dividend to the Nepali people.

 
"Nepal is safe for foreign investment. The Government remains committed to further improving business and investment climate in the country", he apprised the programme, utilising a moment to thank the US government for the operations of Peace Corps programmes in Nepal. But situation had largely changed in Nepal since the launching of the programme. 
In his response to a query from the participants, he said the Nepalese society was characterized by diversities and the tradition of a joint family was still its uniqueness.No country wanted to take a burden of loans, he said, adding that Nepal as far possible wished to get grants or a soft loan. 

The programme was conducted by Australia's former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. 
The Asia Society, a non-profitable and non-political organisation was established in 1956 with a view promoting mutual understandings among the Asian and American people, leaders and institutions in a global context. 
The Prime Minister is presently in the US to attend the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly. ---
